FPT Programmes

Bob from FPT Progammes rang me some weeks ago regarding a website for his football memorabilia business that he has been running for some time on ebay. Although ebay was working for Bob, he did feel it was time to compete with his competitors and have a website of his own. The problem that needed to be overcome was the amount of products he had which was in the region of 60,000, and all these needed to be listed on his site.

After some research and testing of several systems I decided to use Joomla as this was flexible enough for his needs and all his products could be imported relatively easily.

The Parish of Goldthorpe and Hickleton

Andrew Hainey who looks after the church website, contacted me recently regarding an animated flash page that greets visitors to their website.

The job specification was to create seven of the above animated flash pages to include a slide show, organ music and animated text with a link to their website home page. The pages had to be created so that they could be changed easily to reflect the time of year i.e. Christmas, Easter, Lent etc.

Andrew wanted the organ music and sideshow had to finish at the same time, which was a interesting challenge as the amount of photos and the length of music differed for each page.

Andrew was pleased with the initial page design, and only wanted minimal changes to some of the supplied photos.

The Business Boutique

Nicola asked for the design of her new accountancy business website to be bright, cheerful and particularly informal. She wanted the site to be a reflection of her business services which are professional; but also friendly and informal.

The colours Nicola had in mind were bright greens and oranges which go together well.

Nicola didn’t want any formal photos on the website; instead she wanted drawn characters in place of the usual corporate photos which can be found on most accountancy websites. Precise instructions were given as to the type of drawn character she wanted, they were to be informal and friendly, but not too cartoon like.

With Nicola’s ideas in mind I designed a couple of characters, one named Penny and the other named Tenner.

Nicola was absolutely delighted with the site comp1; in particular the characters which she said fitted the brief precisely.

1 A "comprehensive layout" or visual rendering of the proposed website design. The comps usually indicate the intended placement of each photograph, illustration and/or text.
